How fine are the screens in the mixing chamber. This MOD states to install a 2 Micron filter to replace the function of the screen. Were the screens that fine? they couldn't have been doing the same job as a filter. It just seems a 2 micron filter would put a large increase in strain on the pump. Could a regualr sock filter that is used in most tanks be sufficient?
I feel the 2 micron is too extreme for prepump. I currently use a 15 micron spin-on filter as my prepump filter. The screen on the pickup tube catches the "big stuff". However, I will be putting a 2-5 micron filter post pump after my fuel bowl delete.
I left only the screen on the pickup foot and removed the mixing bowl. I do not want any clogs in the tank. A prepump filter on the frame rail is a great place for a clog. A popular pre-pump filter is the Baldwin BF 7725, but it is 5/16 and hard to clamp properly. I never found a 3/8 version. I did find a Hebmuller filter very similar to the BF7725 but with brass inserts in the nipples to stand up to enthusiastic clamping, but still only in 5/16. So I ended up with a Carquest version of a Fram G3, it is 3/8 and 20 micron and clear. We'll see how it lasts.
