havin some door issues... please help

Hey guys im havin a wierd problem. I went out to hop in my 88 f-250 7.3idi diesel and when i went to open the drivers door it only opens like 1/4 of the way and seems to be catching on the front left fender... the whole door also seems to be sagging downward. Any ideas of the cause?

Hinge pins and/or bushings?

Any rust in the area where the hinges attach to the door or post?

Has it taken a hit somewhere?

Some thoughts

Does the door 'drop' a bit when you open it?

Get a strong 'friend' to help out and have him carefully open the door while you look into the gap from the inside of the truck. Have your helper attempt to lift the back edge of the door. If it moves, look at the hinge pins to see if they're wiggling in the hinge.

As it was mentioned in a previous post, is the door rusty around the hinge attachments? You might need an inspection mirror to see this, though.

Hope this helps out.

Ray

Hinge pins & bushings!!! Temp "fix" so you or someone else doesn't crush your door opening it into the fender: open hood & loosen fender bolt at cowl/firewall & pull the fender as far forward as you can, this will mess up the hood alignment so close hood very carfully to see how bad it is, may have to slide hood back on hinge at hood. If you can't replace or repair yourself get to shop ASAP as it will only get worse & cause more damage. You could "twist" the door up so it works but this just stresses the pins & bushings more and your just making it worse in the long run. Fix it right or fix it twice (or more).

thanks guys. heres what started all this. It was a little loose to begin with but opened fine but closed fine if you shut it hard. Then i didnt shut it tight one day and we had a bad wind storm, the wind blew the door open really hard and did it back and forth all night till i went out the next morning and saw it open. Damage: it really bent the **** out of the front part of the door and rear of the fender where they now hit eachother . Its pretty bad, ill have to throw up some pics. So i need to get the door off, replace the broken parts, and try to repair the bent fender and door ends without causing too much damage to the paint.

Same thing happens when people back up w/ door open and catch it on something. Your hinges are now "sprung" replace them too. Pull the fender, pull the door w/ hinges, bolt up new/used door w/ new hinges, align door w/o fender on & latch pin removed, replace latch pin then fender.
