I just bought a used 08 F250 and it came with the split bed extender. The problem is I cannot figure out how this thing is supposed to go on, specifically how it attaches to the truck. Mine has a handle on each end of the bed extender that you can line up with the hole and push the handle in so a metal cylinder fits into the hole. However, that's all I have and unless I'm doing something wrong, no way it's secure like that. So I'm thinking I'm missing some parts but would like to hear from someone who has one who can confirm. Thanks!
Below is from the 2008 F-250 Users Manual 4th printing, Pages 143-145 and there are also pictures. If you do not have the manual go to flmowner.com, if you don't have an account, create one, and put in your info and you will have all user manuals from 1st to last printing. Once there, find the users manual, search "extender" or go to page 143.
To open the bed extender into Tailgate Mode:
1. Pull the locking pin toward the
center of the vehicle.
2. Rotate the storage hinge rearward
to unlatch the panels.
3. Rotate the panels toward the
tailgate.
Repeat Steps 1–3 for the other side of the bed extender
4. Connect the two panels, then rotate both ***** a quarter-turn
clockwise to secure the panels.
5. Ensure the latch rod is inserted
into the tailgate hole and the locking
pins on both sides are engaged into
their holes in the pick-up box.
6. Reverse steps for storage of the
bed extender.
Note: When the vehicle is in motion, ensure the locking pins and *****
are fully engaged.
Note: Ensure all cargo is secured.
Note: When the vehicle is in motion, the tailgate load must not exceed
150 lbs. (68 kg).

Ok, thanks for the help guys. I think I'm missing the center "screw" or whatever you call it that the bed extender would attach to on the side of the bed. Basically the fulcrum point that allows the extender to rest in the bed or on the tailgate. The hole is there but nothing in it so now way to actually attach bed extender.
