What do ya'll recommend for a code reader. Wally World has the Equus 3030 for $42.50, which is better than the same on Ebay. The 3100 is only $74, which is purdy decent price I think. Both reset the codes.
Will a basic code reader suffice or is it worth it to pay a little more?
A basic code reader won't pull ALL the codes, since the PSD is not fully OBD2 compliant.

by law it has to be, It also is. the issue comes in to play with manufacture only data.
also if you have a later truck you need to make sure the tool can read can buss.
Diesels weren't required to be OBD2 when the 6.0 was in production. I'm not 100% certain, but I'm not sure they have to be even now. OBD2 was required for passenger cars in 1996, but there was never a requirement for the over 8600 GVW class of vehicles.
There's been some noise about making heavy-duty vehicles have a form of OBD by about 2014 or so, but the rules aren't set in stone yet.
That's why you can read any car with any scanner, but you have to have a Ford Diesel specific reader for the PSD's.
Some of the codes and numbers match, because Ford uses the same computers and programming for the diesels, but there ARE differences. Which is why you have to have that extra $60 module for the Automotive Enginuity(sp?) package, and why SCT programmers won't pull ALL the codes from a PSD.
