I have this squileak, squileak, squileak noise coming from the engine. The noise is noticeable at idle when I start the truck or when going down a long hill and the engine into sleep mode and when I use the tow-haul and the engine downshifts. The squileak is not timed with RPM’s or transmission. Its been doing it for a while but getting louder and more frequent now. It’s not the alternator because I just replaced it. Could it be the belt or the water pump? Any ideas? Thanks

While the engine is running and squeaking, spray some saopy water on the belt on both sides, one side at a time. If its the belt squeaking, you can tell which side of the belt is squeaking (most likely the ribbed side). Then you probably have a belt problem. I have fixed it before using some dielectric grease on it. Just a little dab on the finger wiped across the width of the belt is all it takes. Or replace the belt (most recommended)
