Hello everyone, I haven't been on the site for a while and have a question about my brakes. A little back ground on the problem. I have been having this problem with the brakes and steering for a while and finally got to do the fluid flush on the power steering. I used a semi synthetic trans fluid for the flush. After the flush the steering is great but I am still having a problem with the brakes. It is better after the flush but still not 100%. When I stop normally the brakes work good but when I have to do a "panic" stop it seems like when I first slam the peddle down the brakes don't engage hard for a second or two. Its like there is a hesitation in the Hydro boost, power steering pump or possibly the master cylinder before the brakes engage. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I did some searching and didn't come up with anything close to what I am experiencing. I hope this makes sense how I explained the problem.
Could this be a problem with possibly having air in the brake lines and needing to bleed them? Probably wouldn't hurt to flush the brake fluid anyway. It might be a while till I get to this but would like to hear some input on possible fixes.
Sounds like air or maybe one or more of the soft lines from the caliper to the hard line might be bulging. Before you do a brake fluid flush check to make sure the soft lnes aren't bulging while applying hard pedal pressure.
You could just bleed them to make sure it is not air in the lines first.

I didn't even think of that. I will have to check that out also.
Could it be like mine? Brakes work normal but when I panic break it's almost like ABS kicks in except I don't have ABS so it almost acts like it's power braking, trying to avoid a complete lockup.
If that makes any sense.
dumb question you did use ATF not PSF in the flush of the pump?
Yes I used ATF for the flush.

Not sure if I have ABS or not. It's a late 99'. It's like when I panic brake the peddal will go down farther and it kinda kiks back a little and starts to brake hard, if I remember corectly. I will have to drive it this weekend and find out for sure. Its my tow vehicle and I haven't driven it for a while so I can't remember for sure.
Oh, nice, just book marked it, didn't know those were out there, I'll order some before I ever do any bleeding :-P
Man if you have an early 99 and you're still talking about "when" you're going to do some bleeding then by all means get after it man! I like to completely flush mine every other year and I've had mine since early 99.

Mine does that as well, always has. Other Hydroboost vehicles I have driven do too, just a characteristic of it I beleive. Some may be worse than others.

My truck hasn't always done this so I know that it's not a normal thing. I was hoping that the flush would take care of it. It got better but not 100%.

hahaha, don't need to, just recently had my brake booster replaced and the brake lines flushed though I think they used ordinary PS fluid so I'll be flushing that soon as well, unfortunately.
