Hi I have a 1992 ford f150 4.9 300 I6 with 41,000 miles on it i changed the oil 2 1/2 weeks ago and the lifters have been ticking every time i start it up in the morning for two days it didnt do it but then it started again the ticking does go away with in a minute or two. I used Pennzoil ive used pennzoil before in the fall and then switched to castrol during the winter i used pennzoil 20w-50 before in the fall and when i recently changed it and 10w- 40 in the winter i also used z-max to see if it would stop doing it just please help me even though it goes away its still buggs the hell outta me that it is doing it!
Hi i have 96 f-150 in line 6 4.9 ltr i changed my oil from 30w to 40w and my lifters started ticking put 30w back in and the lifters stopped just a though.

Well Lew you and Dan are pretty damn good because that fixed it went to the auto part store today after working bought a new motorcraft filter then i went out. and my truck sat at a freinds house for about 4-5 hours and it would usually tick if it sat this long and didnt! i was so happy thanks alot guys, Cory
Well this morning when i went to start my truck the tick returned! I couldnt believe it so pissed after mowing one account i went to my mechanic and told him the problem in two weeks im bringing in to him to get 12 new lifters put in one of the springs must of weakend or there is crap stuck in it ohh well

Is it clearly just one or two lifters clattering or all of them? I was under the impression from your first post it was all of them.
If its only one or even two yea then no its not/wasn't the filler.
Just to be clear I have nothing against Purolator filters, don't recall ever had used one so wouldn't have an opinion either way as far as that goes. The "brand" used had nothing to do my suggesting trying a different filter or a Motorcraft filter.
Yup should have asked you that to start with, would have saved ya chasing down swapping oil filters, sorry bout that.
And heck no I didn't think you did, nothing at all in your posts suggested you thought I might have been knocking your choice of filter, just wanted to clarify it on that "brand name" thing anyway.
