I would like opinions on Comp Cams,,,Any Luck Building a SBF with them?
I put a 268H Comp Cam and lifters/Kit ,,in my 289, and it always had some lifter noise,,,The heads are the adjustable rocker type,,,always noisey,,,not real bad ,,just louder then I feel they should be,,,seemed to get a loud lifter on startup, after sitting over night,,,Great oil pressure,,75 psi cold,,35-40 or so ideling warm.
Just wondering what others have experienced ?
What Cams are Better?
Back in the Day I had a,, Crane ( Fireball) Cam in my 289 Mustang,,,ran great,,,Not loud either!!
The Crane flat tappet I have in my 5.8 always produces a little valvetrain noise.. nothing most people would notice but more than I thought it should have. In comparison the Comp cams roller I have in my 5.0 is dead silent and it produces quite a bit more lift and has a steeper ramp rate than the 5.8 cam.
just understand a car designed cam generally wont work well in a heavy vehicle like our trucks/broncos. any cam that doesnt produce power until 2500 + rpms wouldnt be advisable.
i've had a comp cam in 2 out of 3 of my 302's.. the other was a ford F-303.. i definitely have to say i was much happier with my comp cams.. just make sure you get the valve springs they recommend or else you'll gain some valvetraine rattle.. which after some time may damage the lifters or push rods
