IACV Question?
Occassionally I'll start the truck and it only idles
around 5-6 hundred rpm's. Once warm it idles to
the correct rpm's. Today, and it's happened once
or thrice before, it stayed low. Then while driving
around 55 I suddenly felt the engine smooth out
and the truck picked up rpm's and ran better. (not
that it was running badly) Then when I came to a
stop the engine was idled correctly and it was
running smoothly. No more low idle.
I just cleaned the throttle body and was thinking about running seafoam through it. I have 202k miles on the truck and I'm not sure if I should. Will it hurt the o2 sensor's or catalytic converter? I have heard mixed opinions.
I was also wondering what would
cause the low idle when cold? IACV? EGR , PCM and what's with the hiccup and smooth running? I
know I'll get some great suggestions. Thanks
It has also gotten hot as a June bride here in GA .
I really hate climbing under the hood when it's in
the 9O's and 90 percent humidity. lol
Try cleaning it up to be sure the pintle is free of carbon and gum.
It must move freely to keep the idle under control at all times.
Eliminate one item at a time until you get the old fella back in shape from a long life of grime.
There may be other issues but one at a time for now.
