Question True Duals

I'm wanting to put true dual exhaust on my 96 xlt, 5.0. I am wanting to acheive a nice mellow, throaty sound, kinda like a mustang has. any suggestions and price?

you might try a search on this subject because its been slaughterd in here. first thing you need to ask yourself is, are there any emissions in your area, because if so. there is no way you will pass a visual inspection. Also, you can get that similar sound with a good muffler and 3" pipe with out worry about emissions. I agree mustangs sound so nice. the other issue being trying to find a shop that will actually do the work, most wont because they could get in trouble over it.

good luck, best option would be to go down to a muff shop and talk , see what your options are.

Better think about where you want to run the duals out as well. If you want to drive with the back window down and have the duals coming straight out of the back, you might have a problem with exhaust coming in through it.

I'm gonna have to agree with Kemicalburns on the single 3". Primarily there's the matter of where to put duals. With the T-case in the way on the driver's side it would be difficult to route them without a lot of bends (and a lot of restriction). Hedman shorties, whacking off the rear cat, and a dynomax glasspack have worked wonders for my 90 302.

I would have to agree on the single 3"working very well. My '92 302 does quite well and sounds very nice with a single pipe. Besides, the added freedom to breath out the exhaust will only improve performance until you have exceeded the intake system's ability to pull air and fuel in. If you are going to radically alter the intake system to improve intake volume, the duals may become advantageous for performance reasons more than audio enjoyment.
