Steering issue
Now, I have also noticed that the steering wheel had a lot of slop in it. So, I adjusted the meshload to almost where I think it needs to be, but stopped short to make sure I don't overdo it. So, there's still a tad bit over an inch of play in the wheel, but that's better than the 3 1/2 inches I had before.
So, now the steering is tight, and the truck seems to go where the wheel is pointed, for the most part. Where it is still bad, and this was something I thought I noticed before adjusting the steering box, but wasn't sure about, is it takes steering past the point I want to steer to to get it there. Then I have to steer back as the truck "catches up". Ok, not sure that'll make sense...
If I'm turning left, and then complete the turn, I can't just turn the wheel back to center. I have to turn it a couple or three inches past center to get the truck to go straight, otherwise I keep turning left a little.
As a kid, and for the past 20 years, I've always put about 1/8" of toe in when I have aligned my cars. I've always read and heard and understood (I thought) that a little toe in makes for a more stable drive. And on a RWD vehicle, it should allow for pressure driving down the road to push the front tires back and out, to get closer to straight up. I've thought about crawling under and adjusting it this way, but like before, just haven't had the time. Does this sound like an issue that might be caused by the alignment? Does it sound like anything else in particular? It scares me when I'm pulling the trailer because I don't want to be chasing the truck and the trailer get to wagging.
