Serious engine cleaner?

Parts solvent works best for me. I have one of the cheap flow-thru solvent brushes that the hose connection broke off of, so when I did the front end work the other day I dunked the brush and filled it with solvent out of the parts washer. Plugged the hole with the finger and ran over to the truck. Dumped it on the grease ball I needed to clean, little brush action and BANG! ShamWOW guy would be proud.
You can pick up a gallon of the solvent for around $13 at Northern T(F)ool or the like. Also makes cleaning under your fingernails a breeze!

I just had my engine and undercarriage cleaned by a detail shop for $125. It is spotless and I'm amazed on how clean they got it. If I did it myself it would have taken me a few hours and made a big mess plus all that gunk cannot go down the drain here in California. The stuff is considered Hazardous Material and could warrant a full Haz Mat clean up and I would be $$ responsible for.
