new headers, linkage problem

Finally put hedman hedders on my 78 dent with a 79 400, auto c6. Now its a pain to get into drive. Forget first or second gear. I plan to pull the linkage rod and heat and re-bend the rod. Has anyone else had to do this after installing headers on their 2wd. What did you do? Also have to replace the dip stick tube cause I boogered it up putting in the new pipes.

I've got nearly the same problem with my 2wd auto with headers, but mine will go into drive and D2 fine just not D1. I've thought about marking the area where the linkage is contacting the header and putting the linkage in a vise to make a little room to miss the header, but have'nt got around to it yet.

Yeah you have to bend the linkage in a little.

Since I do not use the kickdown I just swapped the rod to the inside of the lever on my truck, not sure if the tranny mounted NSS allow that though.
