Have a 2005 excursion with the 6.0 diesel. Went camping this weekend and towed our trailer for the first time this year. Went up into the mountains south of Calgary, ab.
Most of the way out and back could here the engine fan screaming away. only did that on long, big hills last year.
At one point seemed to completely lose all power until I took my foot off the gas and then back on.
Truck was able to maintain speed for the most part.
HAd the EGR cooler replaced about 6 weeks ago. fan was running while driving empty, so checked coolant. nothing in reservior, added 3L coolant.
Checked yesterday after truck sat a few hours and tank was empty again so added another 2L.
No white smoke whatsoever.
Thoughts? Want to tow without having to hear the fan screaming.
Last year ran a Triple Dog economy/tow mod, no program in currently. Considering putting the triple dog back in using the performance setting. yeah or nay?
The temp stayed where it normally sits the whole time.
As for the oil cooler, no they did not replace it.
Bringing it back to them this friday, so we will see what they say. going to check for coolant in the exhaust gases.
Question: oil cooler a quick replace, or require tear down like EGR cooler?
Same exact teardown as EGR cooler to get to oil cooler. It is under the intake manifold. When replacing the EGR cooler, you should always rebuild the oil cooler. With that said, your oil cooler is not eating coolant. If you are not seeing the coolant coming out the top of the degas bottle or leaking from the EGR cooler itself, it would seem you are burning it. Does your exhaust smell sweet?
