idm or pcm

My 1996 F250 Turbostroke has 120,000. The tranny failed while hauling a 10,000 pound 5th wheel trailer at 70mph. I have a new heavy duty Jasper automatic now, but the computer is showing a fault in the pcm. I have had an Edge Programmer plug in tuner for 5 years set to 60 extra hp and 120lbs extra torque. It works great... it also gives me trouble codes from the computer. While I can still haul at 70+ mph, it seems like it is down on power at the higher speeds. I was not getting the pcm code prior to the tranny failing, but oil was blowing everywhere under the hood. The mechanic said it was the idm - injector driver module - and he would charge me $1200. I have found them for less than $250 and easy to install. However, the code says the pcm, not the idm is failing. How do I tell if it is the ECM, PCM, IDM? Truck runs great without the trailer. One thing I have noticed is that under heavy acceleration with the trailer, I used to put out black smoke, but had power until I chickened out hauling the trailer. Now there is very little black smoke when floored with the trailer on. Do you suggest replacing the idm and then checking codes again? Is the exact part number of the idm critical. Please give me some suggestions as to whether ECM, PCM?? or IDM.
