I recently bought a used 2001 4x4 expedition and I don't have an owners manual to figure out how to program the keyless entry pad on the door. Also I lost one of my keys, I was told that there is a chip in the key that would prevent me from going anywhere(wal-mart) other than the ford dealership to get a new key made. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Had the same problem with my '99. Found on this board, after my dealer led me wrong, there's a black box above the brake pedal with a five digit number on it --this is the code for the door pad--or it was in 1999.
Good luck
As for the getting another key made, you will have to go to a dealership or a locksmith. The Expy's are using transponder keys now, and if yours is not programmed to the computer, you won't be able to start it. The dealer charges about $25 for a new key, and $45 to program it here in Denver. I found looking through the service manual, I can program it myself.
On '97 and '98 models, you need one original key to program more. On the '99 and newer models, you need two keys to program a third. There is another way on the '97 and '98 models to program keys fresh without having an original key, but I am not sure if it works with the '99 and newer models, and it takes about an hour of sitting and watching the dash lights.
YES!!! I found the code right where you said it would be. Thanks!!! I thought the function would open all doors, Only the drivers side opens, while the locking feature locks all the doors. Is there a way to reprogram my own code?? and are there any other features for the keyless entry system??
I was told that the black box can't be programmed for a different number(sucks). Mine only opens driver door also which is a pain when it's below zero and everyones cold. Did you get a remote entry keychain? I had to order one. I would get it off e-bay.
You'll definately want to get an owners manual. There is a ton of good information in it. I too own a 2001 Expy. As far as unlocking all of the doors... if you hit the "3" key after you have entered the code, all of the doors will open. You can also program your own code... but I don't remember how to do that off of the top of my head.
You can download the owner's manuals in PDF format from the Ford owner's site. Go here: https://www.ownerconnection.com/FormsLoginSSL.asp?Make=Unbranded&Model=default&L=4 9&N=840.
Here are the common procedures for the keypad entry:
Programming your own personal entry code:
Enter the factory-set code (keypad will illuminate when first digit is pressed).
Press the 1/2 control.
Enter your personal 5-digit code.
Your personal code does not replace the factory-set code. You can use either code to unlock your vehicle. Each time you set a new personal code the module will erase the previous one in favor of the new code.
Deprogramming (erasing) your own personal code and leaving only the factory-set:
Enter the factory-set code.
Press the 1/2 control.
Press the 7/8 and 9/0 controls at the same time.
The system will now only respond to the factory-set code.
Unlocking all doors:
Unlock the driver's door then press the 3/4 control.
Locking the doors (also arms the perimeter alarm system):
Press 7/8 and 9/0 controls at the same time. The 5-digit code does not have to be entered.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Jan-02 AT 10:19 AM (EST)]Does anybody know where I can find the Keyless entry code for my Navigator the dealer wants $80 for it. I think that's a rip off. Can someone help thanks.
I believe I read somewhere (recently) on this or another board that the code is printed down below near the pedals under the dash. Sorry for the vagueness... I haven't verified this myself. But, after this info was posted, someone wrote back thanking the person who posted it. So... apparently it is there.
