any body else think this is a ridiculous expense for nasa's budget last year, was anything acomplished besides studing the effect of exercise during weightlessness? maybe we should let the russians tackle this area

It's more money than you and I could spend in our lifetimes, but in terms of the proposed 2.23 trillion dollar budget for 2004, it is only 0.67% of the expenditures. The Pentagon will receive 380 billion while Medicare expeditures alone will total over $400 billion. Other healthcare and social welfare programs make any NASA outlay resemble chump change.
