Hahah yea it was really loud. Funny thing is I got pulled over one time while I had open headers and I was scared to death to start my truck back up when I could go but I did and the cop didn't say anything about it.

I would recommend running a single highflow cat and your cherry bomb. If thats too quiet then try just running the highflow cat. You may also need the glasspack to pass inspection/emmissions. Its actually illegal to run with no mufflers. If you want you could make it so that the glaspack can be replaced with a straight peice of pipe. That way you can swap it back and forth.

Check you laws cause i know that where i live you don't have to have a muffler but you have to have a cat. just learn what you can and can't do and use that to figure out what you want and how much of the law you can fudge with lol.

Will it be concidered 'tampering' if I remove the cat and put it back on for e-check?

its only tampering if you do something to make the cat itself different from the way it was made (punching out/removing innards) or removing it all together.....

if its that much of a concern, just ask the inspector if he has ever heard of preventative maintenance ( replacing rusted exhaust bolts/inspecting prior to inspection)...

the guys around here could care less as long as its there, of course if its obdI a lot don't even look for the cat, as long as it passes the computer test (no sniffer on obdI....

also, around here, at the 20 year mark inspections are a thing of the past, its good to be a classic in north carolina

don't have emissions to deal with here. also my truck is a 6.9l n/a diesel with straight pipes turned out in front of rear tire. idles like a diesel but running or pulling hard it sounds like '60's big block with headers. you can hear it echo off buildings in town and like one of you guys said it's fun to wake up the neighborhood at 3:50am. but my neighbors don't like me anyhow!!!!

I live in texas and we have the emissions test. Luckily I live in a non emissions county so I just have to do the safety inspection but the cat is required. I will be taking a 3" cat and running a pipe through it and installing it before inspection is required. I removed it and installed the o2 sensor in the 3" pipe and have yet to throw a cat code. My truck is a 96' so if I lived in an emissions county as long as I don't have a check engine light then I would be ok anyway.

As long as the cat is there when you get it inspected they won't know. However, I would not want the hassle of screwing with the exaust every year. Secondly, if you get pulled over and they look and you don't have a visible cat, you will get a big fine. Its federal regulations.

A single high flow cat and nothing else would be loud.

Slip on a glasspack for the e test if needed and then take it off.

Seems simple to me.
