hard to start
today when i tried to start my 77 250 4x4 460 c6 truck it would crank very slow then stop then slow till it fired up. so opened hood to check things out and pos bat cable was melting. any ideas what could cause this? it has new optima bat , ground clean and tight maybe bad selinoid or starter?

I would run a test on the starter to see how many amps it's drawing, or make sure the positive cable isn't arking out on the chassis somewhere... Before you start buying parts, test the starter, and your voltage regulator and inspect you cables it sounds like a short in the wiring

My vote would be starter. I have an Optima battery and I had same problem...minus the melted batt cable. I replaced the starter and no more dragging starter issues. Do recheck all your cable connections and grounds though.
