Howdy guys! Name is Mark, you can call me either I don't care. I go to school and test, fix, and install computers/electronics and parts
Been in Salem a lonnng time, raised but not born here. I have a 1987 4X4 F-250 Ford 6.9L Diesel pickup with a banks sidewinder non-wastegated turbocharger, T19, running on 34" micky thompson bahas and a slight lift from air shocks...
Got the truck from a guy, not a good deal long story short I fixed a metric $#!+ ton of stuff and its working pretty good so far. Found sand in the intake after he borrowed it for a weekend... motor still running but the damage was done so needs a rebuild or replacement - whichever is cheaper/better.
Got a stereo with 2 speakers and sub behind the bench, made a custom switch panel for fog lights, reverse light, air horn, and manual glow plugs. Had to replace alternator and batteries they both died, got 130amp 3g alt and 2 990cca group 31's from napa working wonders together in there. Fixed the fog lights and been rewiring some basic stuff. Got an intercooler for it but haven't installed it yet. Had to mount custom air filter to the banks turbo filter house since its impossible to find them local, part of the reason sand got in was the old filter wasn't installed proper and was mashed.... I see how they got the nickname K&N dust scoops . New high-torque starter, batteries, glow plugs, push button, and cleaning the cables until they looked brand spanking new got it starting again.
Mods/work I'd like to do
electric locks
maybe elec windows
fix rear window latch somehow
rebuild motor - add cam grind, BB injectors, try and get my ip rebuilt, hone cylinders (or sleeves, last owner mentioned it was sleeved - didn't say if all 8 or what...), replace the rings and bearings, oil pan replacement, hot tank and check for cracks all over, get some head work - bigger valves maybe - not sure if needed with cam grind, head studs, intake/exhaust studs maybe, headers, install the intercooler I got, see how much boost I can get from the banks, ceramic coat and teflon or w/e is similar to the engine internals, exhaust wrap and ceramic the exhaust pipes
home brew propane injection
add a/c
bag it/fix suspension etc
fix canopy up
rhinoline/line-x the bed and cab floor maybe
electric lift pump maybe
gotta repair or replace the fuel tanks - ones leaking. Who knows whats in the bottom of the tanks
To be continued....
Big list of to-dos but so far I'm happy with my truck. Sounds like she's pretty bad off but compared to a few months ago it's going stellar. It wasn't running since the alt/batt/starter/glowplug system were all tired or dead. But the engine didn't quit yet, still not 100% but she'll roast tires and pull good - fuel economy has suffered some but I also have leaking return lines on passenger side and leaking IP seal gasket o-ring thing. A good push or roll down a hill got it started before all the fixes.
Now it runs pretty good after I fixed the motor mount issue, I'm proud to own it just not glad how I got it. Still happy to have it anyway.
