I'm suprised someone would let a nice old Belair be crushed like that!

What a waste.

I have seen that video before. I still have the same questions. What was the condition of the 59 notice at the point pf impact the rust cloud. Also didn't Chevys of that era have that X frame? I have no doubt that modern autos have more safety features, bur show a test of a full framed 59 truck versus a new truck.

Obsa...you are correct about the X frame...all GM's had them...as far as full size cars...Im amazed they used it on the Cadillacs with all that weight..the crash stuff might be why GM went back to perimeter frames in 60 or 61 as I recall.
Id be curious to see what a full perimeter frame car of old would do vs a new car though...

Not so.... I had a 63 BelAir 9 passenger station wagon in high school and it had an X frame i think the 64 has the same X frame, the 65 Elcamino i had was a wide frame design.

you are correct Bill..at least as it applies to Buick...which is the GM Im best versed on...64 was the last year for the X frame...but their 59 models were perimeter frames....I will look through my Buick stuff and see what I come up with...

Lets throw a 72 LTD against a newer vic. That would show a disparity in favor of a old car.

Or a 75 imperial vs a chrysler sebring.

A pinto against a focus.

A Pinto would CREAM a Focus!!!!!!!!!!! a pinto was my first Ford and it was a tough little car. It only had a problem if it was hit from the rearend.... kinda like the Crown Vic Police cars of a few years ago

You take a pinto headlong into a focus. Tell me what has a beefier frame.

My hunch is the Chevrolet crash was to compare the difference 50 years makes in design and how far things have come since then...

Yes it probobly was.

One of our fellow users got rearended last year in his slick and had minimal dammage while the car got ruined.

They dont build them as well anymore. I still feel safer wraped in a extra ton of steel than a airbag.
