transmission cooler

I have a 99 Eddie Bauer 5.4 without the tow package. We are wanting to add a transmission cooler. We live in pretty hilly country and pull a boat and trailer quite a bit. I found one on performanceparts.com and the price was pretty reasonable. Have any of you bought from this company? Do they have good products or would you suggest some where else? Another question, have any of you installed one of these? How big of a deal is it? My husband is pretty handy.

I added a B&M cooler to our '97 Expy. Installation was relatively easy- just be sure to tap into the correct line coming OUT of the radiator. I didn't even remove the grille. Sorry, I have no experience with performanceparts.com

You probably have a cooler already if you have the tow package. I have 2 coolers in front of my radiator and just pressumed that one was for the trans. Look in front of the radiator at the bottom. I would then think you could just swap out the smaller unit for a performance one, providing the pump will accomodate the extra flow.

I do not have the tow package. When I look down the hood latch hole I see a cooler on the drivers side that I was told was for the power steering. I was told that the transmission cooler should be in the same area, but more on the passenger side, we dont have that.

My mistake. . . I was reading too fast too late and thought you said you had the tow package. I see now that you do not. I will be glad to take a pic or two later today of my vehicle to show how the trans lines are routed to the cooler if you like.
