Here's the deal. Did the aih delete the other day. Since then the truck cranks slowly and and for a good 10-20 seconds before starting (almost killed my battery this morning). I have been told on this forum that the aih should not have anything to do with starting the truck in a currently warm climate. I had 2 wires on the aih. One wire was about a foot long and went to a solenoid on the top of the motor, I can't remember which relay I pulled it from. There are 2 there (pics would be helpful). I believe that the front one is the gpr, the other one I don't know. The second wire, I taped back, goes down to the valve cover and possibly extends somewhere else.
It will reach back to where the aih was but won't reach either relay.
I'm obviously a newbie here but I figure that the only way to learn my way around the truck is to mess with it and ask questions when something gets hosed. I appreciate any and all help.
Yep that's it, thanks. I pulled the lead from the aih and the front relay, i remember moving the hose out of the way. What is the front relay for? Possible that I need to make a connection from the "valve cover lead" to the front relay?

The front relay activates your Air Intake Heater element. It's controlled by the PCM and it is activated by these conditions:
ambient temperature must be below 0 deg C (32 deg F)
engine oil temperature must be below 55 deg C (131 deg F)
vehicle power must be between 11.8 and 15 volts
parking brake must be applied on manual transmission vehicles
the transmission must be on park or neutral on automatic transmission vehicles
glow plugs must be off
It should have no bearing on your no start/hard start condition if you removed only the red wire from the heater element in the Y-pipe to the front relay and disconnected the ground wire (you can leave it grounded to the head or remove it as well.)
Thanks Chris. Sounds like its coincidental then. Maybe I bumped something loose on the gpr?!?. I'll climb back under the hood when I get back to the garage and check it out.
Could be a coinicidence. Happens to all of us. Don't forget to do the obvious checks as well like the battery connections clean and tight, any other loose wires, etc. Sometimes it's the silly things that are the gotchas! post up anything you find.
