Question T-18 questions

Hey guys I'm thinking about swapping in a manual to my 78 250 460 4x4 and wanted to put in an np435 but cant find very many for sale. Maybe its just my area but there are T-18s everywhere. Is there any significant difference in the two? Or anything that would make having a T-18 any more difficult that an np435. Just wanted to pick yals brains.

Thanks in advance!

I have a T-18 in my 78 with a 390 no problems from it. From what I have read and know both are very strong. The np-435 has a slightly lower first gear. I personaly like the t-18.

They are about the same. I would not hesitate to use a T-18

yeah im not sure what the deal is but the t18s are everywhere out here. The only difference is a lower first gear? I thought the t18 had a granny low also? Is there any difference in the swap from c6 to manual with the t18 vs the np435?

They both have a granny low. The t18 has better gear spacing in my opinion.

Ive run the T18, T19, and NP. I cant tell any difference other than slightly different gear ratios. All of them stood up well.

Do both the Np435 and T18 swap in exactally the same when swapping? Im starting to lean more towards the t18 but what all would i need to get to make the swap from c6 to manual? I have a 1978 F250 4x4 ranger with a 460. I wanna start collecting parts asap.
thanks guys

Oh and is there a difference between a t18 out of a 2wd vs one out of a 4wd?

yes i believe the tail housing is different but there should not be any t18's in a 2wd in my personal opinion that would be almost pointless unless it was for a specialty reason i got one in my 87 and love it to death non syncro first is a pain though sometimes just got to get useto starting off in second thats all

Of course the tailhousing is different if it bolts to a transfer case but why, exactly, would it be pointless in a 2wd? I have a 2 wheeler with a T18. Am I not allowed to tow or haul heavy loads with it?

no i was not meaning that. of course you can haul and tow with it. i was just simply stating my opinion that is all. and yes you are correct on towing and hauling. i have just alwas used mine in my 4x4 pullin trailers out of the fields with it. had a buddy with one in a 2wd and he would get stuck almost every time but that was just because he was in a fresh field trying to pull a full p-nut trailer out with it. i got a 89 with a 5 spd that i pull on road with and never had any probs with it and it had o.d. so its alot better on gas

Get one out of a 4x4 to swap with not only the tail housing will be different but the mainshaft will be too.

So what all would i need to do a swap from c6 to t18?

If i were to do the t18 swap would an np435 also bolt up to everything without an issues?
