My truck says it has trac-loc, according to the little tag on the rear end. My understanding is that both back tires will be powered at all times. I was on some ice this morning and only got one tire spinning. Did the trac-loc fairy visit me, and leave me peg-legged?
It could be tired and just need rebuilding. Jack up the rear and see if both wheels turn the same direction to make sure you still have a locking rear.
Thanks, Barry. I know that on gravel, I can leave two "marks" in the gravel from the tires.. I will jack it up when it gets a bit warmer, or I can convince the wife to let me have a little "garage time"
If your t-loc isn't working you might drain your oil and replace with New oil AND "Stinky" stuff(~~~ 4 ounces) bottle...available at Ford maybe......if it still isn't working...there are New Clutch pacs available that should fix your problem.....they do wear out ..eventually.....fd
I checked it again last night on the way home - twice. put it on some ice, both tires spinning.
Does it make a difference if I have one tire (passenger side) on the ice, and the other on pavement? That's what was going on when it "didn't work" - the driver side on the pavement wouldn't spin - maybe it's worn out to the point that it works when they are both on ice, but not enough "grab" when one is on pavement? Does that sound reasonable?
If one side is spinning then the clutchs should engage and lock to force Both wheels to have traction .....if the clutches are not working properly then you have accurately deduced your problem. fd
