The truck was missing and hard to start, I did some research and came up with the distributor as a possible fix. I found a reman motocraft and R2'd it. It didn't fix the hard starting, what I set out to fix, but the miss fire seemed to go away. Well a couple days later it started missing, really bad. To the point where I didn't know if it was gong to make it home. Also the hard to start issue isn't a a battery or starter problem. It will crank as long as I hold the key and it gets worse with heat.
If I got it a tooth off, would the computer mask it and then all the sudden give up, or would it have been apparent from the start? I have no check engine light either. The plugs, wires, cap and rotor are newer, but not brand new. Any help is greatly appreciated.
It's not throwing any codes. I had the guys down at auto zone check it, and the only code it had was the one for the A/C being on. Motocraft plugs, duralast cap, rotor & wires.
and now a new tfi or ignition control module. still not fixed. the module failed the test at auto zone, so i was excited, oh well on to the next part.
so that makes a new tfi, distributor, cap, plugs, rotor and wires. maybe i will try a coil next? i really think its in the ignition system. its like timing is retarding itself. i mean it will bounce 1000 rpm's.
