Im looking at a f250 diesel 4x4 auto, the motor was rebui;t but needs to b finished, like have the water pump put back on n other small things and put back in the truck, it comes with 2 auto transmissions that i asume are c6's. its a standard cab with typical michigan rust but not bad for the age, my question is with all the work it needs done is it woth 1000 dollars, and can I put a overdrive tranny in it or put a overdrive on the c6 and keep the transfer case, I assume the overdrive tranny would have to b a e4od, what would i need to do a swap, how hard would it be is it worth the work? thanks for your input.
what year is the truck and whats the mileage?
has the engine rebuild been proven or simply stated?
an E40D swap is a bolt in,but requires the computer and wiring harness.yes, its worth the work.you get not only an OD,but a locking converter too.
the motor is rebuilt, I know the guy that did it, can i use a bellhousing from any idi or specifically for the 6.9? I dont know the year or mileage, im waiting for the guy to call me.
The bellhousings are built on the trannys, any idi tranny will bolt up.
For a typical michigan rig and you have to install and finish the motor, then source an overdrive (big bucks) I would find one ready to go like I wanted to start with. These rigs are seen all the time in the 2500 range.

Wow. You michigan boys oughtta drive to washington to buy your trucks.
I'm going to look at an '85 4x4 Diesel with banks turbo, decent body, and new tires for $1000.
I bought a 93 F250 4x4 IDI with a new injection pump, new starter, 4 new tires, straight body and not a speck of rust for 800 just for a parts truck. I agree with the others, there are better deals out there.
