Frame Repair question

Is it ok to cut a section out of the frame and weld in a mild steel plate of the same thickness?

As long as it's in the side of the frame and not the top or bottom lip you'll be fine.

you can actually cut out any portion you'ld like. just MAKE SURE that the frame is BRACED properly before you cut. You don't want the frame to move at all!!!!

Avoid 90-degree corners. I drill the corners then cut out the bad section by connecting the "dots". Bevel the edges of the replacement piece and area to be welded for maximum weld penetration.

X2 on the 90 degree corners, and you can put a sleeve inside if you need to also
