I've owned two different 4.0L's...one in a 1991 Ranger 4x4 and this one in the Explorer. For a V6, I love this engine. Never had an ounce of trouble with either one. Maybe I'll blame it on the (likely) heavier body on an Explorer and the fact that the Ranger was a stick shift, but the one in the Ranger felt like it had more get up and go to it.
