'normal' coolant temp
I have an 88 half ton with a 302. My coolant temp gauge has the 'normal' on it instead of numbers. When im driving and my engine is warmed up the needle is usually at the a in normal. Is my engine is running hotter than it should?

Its still in the normal range, youre fine. I believe the temp of these engines runs between 185 and 190.
Someone once told me the guages in these trucks are more or less like 'idiot lights'. I dont know how true that is. But basically, if its good on the gauge, its good. They just give you a general idea.

Not as bad as a dummy light, but not one of Ford's "better Ideas" either! Personally, I'd do a flush & switch to a distilled water/ antifreeze mix, if you haven't done one in a while. I have a Laser Thermal Reader. I aim at the thermostat housing, cuts out any guessing. They're only $20-30 bucks. Lots of other uses, like checking the temp in & out of the tranny cooler.
