so i am looking for a 4" exhaust kit for my 97 and want to know who has the best sounding resonator. Since fords are cursed witht he "turbo chop" exhaust note. just wondering if it is even fixable?
my terminology is unusual but "turbo chop" is the exhaust whistling under load and the pulses of the engine "chopping" the sound. sorry this explanation is poorly written but my brain is done for the day
The whistle of the turbo is generally a welcome sound....referred to as the fat lady sings. Still don't know what you're talking about re the "Engine chop"
i know what he is trying to say...it's what you hear as a psd with an exhaust goes by. if you dont want to hear it leave it alone. although you dont hear the chop too much yourself unless you are driving by buildings. i dont understand not wanting to hear the whistle????maybe time for a gasser????
I think the choppy turbo sounds mean! Dag-um duracraps sound all wimpy, and chuggins sound like crap most times. I think the 7.3 sounds pretty wicked with the pulsing turbo, sounds like a big piece of machinery.
On another note, the longer the pipe is and if you run a muffler, it will smooth out the turbo pulse more. On the flipside of that, you won't hear hardly anything but motor noise with a little turbo sound at idle. If you want a nice smooth turbo sound, go with a late model 7.3 with the newer turbo, or a 6.OH...
Bigger the exhaust the better I had stock straight pipe it was so raspy even got a ticket for noise lol went to bigger pipe out the side and no issues with the police sounds way better and the pulse noise you are talking about isn,t as noticeable I know exactly what you are saying.
I know what you are talking about. At lower boost I hear it on mine, especially after my Stage I's. I'm running 3" downpipe, 4" exhaust, 4" glasspack that's only 8" long which doesn't do anything but NC requires a muffler.
Hear it whistling but it isn't a constant whistle, kinda a pulsing chirp?
I don't mind it. Clears up when I step on it! Smoke doesn't, haha!
