charging problems

A few weeks ago I did the 3g upgrade on my 90 bronco, today the volt gauge started bouncing back and forth and then stopped charging all together, I suspect the regulator is bad, is there a simple way to test it?? and are all 3g regulators the same? and lastly is there a good place online to buy one? my local checker wants $78 for it and autozone wants $45 but has to order one in.

Get the specified numbers and check what is yours doing before going out and buying anything. I thinks you most probably don't have something properly grounded and that's what's causing you these issues, try looking around the alternator. You could also check: The serpentine belt, a worn or dis-aligned one might not transfer enough energy to the alternator. The pulley on the alternator, is it working right? nothing feels loose?.

Everything looks and feels tight, Also has a new belt and tensinor, I am going to recheck all the wiring and connections when I get home from work tuesday. I went ahead and ordered a regulator, I figure with both my fords converted to the 3g setup having an extra couldn't hurt.

Having some extra spares isn't a problem i guess. I hope you find the cause soon, and hope it's an easy/cheap fix.
