Yes Im hearing things.
My truck has developed a distinct ticking noise. Its mainly in the tall gears from TC lock and up when the motor is under load from the beginning of the rev range. You cant hear it revving from 1st to 3rd but once the TC locks and you push it hard a distinct phft phft phft sounds comes in. Like there is a exhaust leak. I have taken off my downpipe and re sealed where it joins the rest of the exhaust. All clamps look clean. I have checked manifolds and IC boots and the uppies and rear turbo connection. all is clean. She has plenty of power and boost. The more I listen for it the more Im thinking valves, pushrods area. Its quieter in stock tune but it is there. Generally the whole motor is quieter in stock. I have done the under valve cover re torque. Have no codes. What next??
If you can make the ticking change sound by changing tunes, it's likely injector noises. Could just be from the tunes. DP does tend to change the way these engines sound.
check that little tube on the passanger side manifold going up the EBPS at the front of the motor...might be a small pin hole that wont be heard till the higher RPM's under load..
AH great minds think alike - lol. Checked it today.from what I can see all looks good. Will have to take it off to have a proper look - bugger - cause its a PIA to get to.
Dunno bout that one Brandon. The more I listen to it the more Im starting to think pushrod, valve etc. Its a definite tick. Could you get a distinctive tick from a injector ?? Im running 55psi fuel pressure.
Looks like the gasket was compromised but I sure others will chime in. OEM baby like Ed says! LOL I hope all is good down under.
Definitely compromised bro. I would call it cactus. But it just a bit of soft metal to fill in any gaps once compressed. Just cant understand why it pull in one direction cause of a couple of bolts weren't tight enuff. Should do the same job with correct torque. Thats me thinkn anyways. Just lookn for some reassurance spose.
