switching valve

I think my switching valve is bad.No fuel to the filter housing, changed the fuel pump and still no fuel.Took off the fuel lines supply and return and bluw through them with air and both are clear. If the switching valve is bad will it block fuel from both tanks? Is the valve the same on a 95 gas truck and a 95 diesel the same? Any thoughts. Thanks for the help.

I will look tonight to see if they are the same, though I am doubting it as the gas lines are higher pressure lines, and either crimped onto the block, or sealed to the block. I have both models sitting around somewhere here.

If the selector block valve gets stuck in between swtiching lines, it may not let fuel through both.

I know you said you checked the lines for blockage, but how about leaks? Even pin hole leaks will inhibit the pump from pulling fuel through the lines.

Midwest, I did not see anywhere it has leaked. The truck was sitting in the driveway running then it just die.No fuel in the filter and I have changed the pump.If the switching valve is bad will it go bad will it is just ideling.I am stumped.I took the in side of the pump and put a short hose in a gallon can and it runs. The lines are clear so I don't no what to do next.

Well.. It wouldnt surprise me any for something to suddenly stop working. Usually other issues come into play.

I guess to check out everything else first, you know that you dont have a leak, new fuel pump, and your connections are good (which BTW, check that connector to the fuel block). Those connectors can get just as water logged or dirty as the ones to the tranny and any other component under the truck. If you connection is good, go ahead and disconnect the inlet fuel lines one at a time from the block and see if you can siphon fuel from the tank to through them. If you do, most likely, you have a bad fuel block.

Something else to check, that you didnt say if you did or didnt, but the fuel filter inside the fuel bowl. If you have no fuel in the bowl, then you know you are getting a fuel feed problem. Now, lets say you do know that you have a good filter and your fuel pump (being new) is operating, fill the fuel bowl up with diesel, as it should be dry from not getting fuel through the lines. Go ahead and run the truck on whats in the bowl. You may find that you have some air in the lines from your fuel pump swap thats giving you some issues, and will work out once you get her going under her own steam.

There are screen filters in the tanks, that can get gummed up after a period of time. Something to check once you determine everything else is good.

With key On engine OFF have someone switch tanks while listening to the selector valve. There is a small motor in there and you can hear it moving.

If not check in cab fuse #6 15A.
