Alright so as yall might know if ya read my other thread. I'm gettin my new truck on Tuesday. That thread's just about which truck to get though... this thread's about what to do with it
I WANT to break 4 digits with HP, and although a PFC doesn't make a whole lot, the bonuses I get for my specific job should cover parts . I've picked out the injectors I want and all that, I'm gettin hung up on the turbo though.
With the XXXX goal in mind, I'm thinkin I'll need a twin turbo setup... problem here is that the damn ASE certification crap doesn't go too in-depth on turbos, so I'm a bit behind on my turbo tech. From what I can tell, I can go 2 directions with this; I can have one turbo per cylinder bank, or I can have a smaller turbo placed inline with a larger turbo. It seems like having one per cyl bank would give me more power and be cooler, but having two inline turbos would be easier and cheaper although it'd run hotter. If I'm wrong on any of that please correct me, I'm here to learn. So what are your opinions on this? Is a TT setup even worth the power gains, or am I better off with a single?
1000 HP is a pretty lofty goal....there's only a handful of PSD's in that club.
I'm active duty military with no family other than a dog... the only things I have to spend money on are women, guns, and trucks. I'd like to atleast come CLOSE to 1000hp
hey brother, r u stationed in socal? if so where? i'm up in 29 palms area. As far as ur question goes i think a twin turbo set up should make over 1000hp. What kinda truck r u getting?

Nope, I'm in Colorado doin absolutely nothing till July and then I'm headed up to North Carolina for a little while, then they'll probably send me to Afghanistan but I won't find out for sure till I get to NC.
29 Palms eh? You must be a jarhead
Been looking around on BWD's website... I can find all the internals I need there except for pistons and bearings for about $6k. Do they have a good reputation?
I'll be watching the thread.
My E99 7.3 is stock, well almost, since I put newer compressor wheel on it.
For me 4 digits is not important, but reliability while hauling 20,000k on Nevada desert on 6% grades is.
Hey does anybody know who this is? The youtube page says they're in Ft. Collins, which isn't too far away, and they might be helpful in the upcoming weeks... YouTube - Blowby 1038 HP 7.3 Powerstroke

That's the biggest turbo I have ever seen outside of something major like mining truck or marine diesel's.
There is a Powerstroke group up in Colorado and several of those guys are members here also. You're going to need a lot more than just simple stuff like injectors and turbos to make that kind of power and keep the motor in one piece. Please stop by down in the 7.3 diesel section and ask lots of questions before you start this. I'd hate to see you window your motor making a mistake that could have been prevented.
Between 400 - 500 hp isn't too difficult doing things like injectors and turbo with a few other modifications and some tuning. Going for 1000 is a bit more complicated. You'll also need to do something with the tranny for that kind of power.
Most of the really big HP guys run a girdle from Zane as well as different valve springs, push rods, fire rings, and the list goes on and on. Here's a place you can spend some money. Wide Open Perfomance - Online Store

Yaeh man I know I'll need internal components to support this... this isn't just some "oh that sounds cool I'm gonna go hop on the web and talk about it" thing...

As for the trans, I haven't decided where to go with that yet. I'd love to have a manual cause... well, I'm just that kind of guy, but mating an Allison to it like HotRodTractor's got would be pretty damn cool too. We'll see.
And btw thanks for the lead on the CO PSD group and the link to WOP, haven't looked at their site yet
But uh... what's this girdle from Zane stuff? Is he a member on here?
Hey... what do yall think about these? It seems like buying one of these would almost be cheaper and certainly easier than buying all the individual parts and having my truck down and not driveable while I install em. Looks like all I might need to add to these is a girdle, and then that'd just about do it for internals.
From WOP...
Crower Rods: $2700
Chromoly Prods: $325
Fire Rings: $499
And then from Outlaw...
Main Bearings: $195
Rod Bearings $195
Piston Rings: $845
Stage II Heads: $3900
ARP Head Studs: $560
Valve Springs: $780
Lifters: $260
Cam: $635
Roller Rockers: $1500
HP Pistons: $1800
TOTAL: $14,194
Even the Stage II performance engine would be cheaper...
