Talking torque converter

I have a 1993 f-150 supercab 4x4 5.8l. When driving down the highway it will start to buck whenever it comes under a load such as a hill. This is most pronounced around 50 mph. If I give it more gas it will shift down and clear up a bit better but next hill or spot where it gets bit of load and starts again. I have put new wires, plugs, rotor, O2 sensor, fuel filter, and distributer cap. A fellow told me it could be torque converter or transmission. At lower speeds it seems to be better. Also is happening more and more. Truck has 260,000 kms . Any one else have this problem or any suggestions would be appreciated.

torque converter

Sounds like the proverbial torque converter shudder. It may be remedied by a fluid flush, or if not flushed, then make sure you drain the converter and the pan. See if that helps. They also make additives some swear by, but I've never used them. If the fluid change doesnt work, its time for a new torque converter and upgrades to the transmission, which all can be done by a shop for $500 to 700 I believe. It may involve a new TCC seleniod and/or pump upgrades. They make reprogramming kits which are designed to fix this problem. Try the fluid first, you might get lucky.

Thumbs up torque converter

Thanks I'll try the fluid change first and then phone the tranny shop!
