Ok, well I have an 82 F250 with heat only, so being in Florida and all I would like to put A/C in my truck! I know I would need just about everything like a compressor, evaporator, accumulator, lines, etc. I am looking to find a donor truck from a junk yard, but was wondering if anyone had done this. I am under the impression that the wiring harness should already be wired for this, can someone confirm that. Also do I have to stay with 80-86 trucks, are the e-series vans also usable. And is there any i should know prior to doing this, tips ideas, etc! Also I am not worried about having vents in the dash, I can either find a replacment dash or find other vents from other vehicles to give it a custom look! Or just use the defrost and floor vents.
It can be a lot of work and head/heart ache peicing together from many donors. Where in FL, maybe look up Catlin Truck Accessories in Jacksonville, they specialize in aftermarket air systems.
The AC wiring harness is not included in a non-ac-equipped truck, but it plugs into the main
harness and can be added pretty easily.
If you're looking in junkyards, you might look for the dealer-added versions of AC (as opposed to
those installed at the factory). Some ways to determine:
1) Dealer-added AC generally uses FLEXIBLE duct work behind the dash (factory uses hard,
molded plastic)
2) I think it's the lower HVAC control slider ****, the one that changes the temperature cold
to hot... All the way to the left is OFF but with dealer-added AC there will also be a white "AC"
in that LH position.
