so, the guy at the garage wouldnt even put it on the tester, said that it wouldnt tell him anything anyway, and told us it might be the overdrive, anyone have and idea on that or what the symtpoms of a bad overdrive would be?

Sounds like the guy at the garage either does not have the equipment or does not know how to use it.

Why not go ahead and check the codes yourself as was suggested by danr1 in post #4?
This will more than likely tell you where the problem is.

The overdrive is not going to make the EPC jack up the pressure.
If the overdrive is broke you will not have overdrive.
The only way may be if the transmission is slipping then the computer may up the pressure with the EPC.

How about the broken TR sensor, have you changed that yet?

Sounds like it would be cheaper for you to buy a BOB and DMM and test the sensors and solenoids.

Required equipment necessary to diagnose an E4OD transmission consists of:
Rotunda Transmission Tester 007-0085C
Rotunda Super Star II Tester 007-0041B
Rotunda EEC-IV 60-pin Breakout Box 007-00033 (BOB)
Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-00051 (DMM)
Rotunda Transmission Range (TR) Sensor Cable ("MLPS" Manual Lever Position Sensor Cable) 007-00086

I suggested disconnecting the computer for a couple reasons, to be sure no old codes where present adding to any issue, doubt it but, and to see if the trans would shift normally for a few miles then the symptom/s quickly return.

Might have given an indication the computer/trans are functioning normally or not, just a simple communication issue between them, depends on a few factors but worth a try, appears no real help in this case though no.

From my experiences, especially with trans/shifting issues, a computer (one that works right) will quickly return to limp mode and again restoring any previous codes it had lost by disconnecting the battery. Done in a very short time, have them again right after the failure returns/continues. However if its failing the KOEO test for any reason its not ready for a test drive.

The computer may be the problem but at this point you have nothing showing it is, you have some testing to do first.

As suggested you need to check it for codes, the light may not be on and probably isn't, it should have codes stored in CM anyway.
That and the KOEO test can be and is very instrumental in leading you to a problem regardless.
