Looking at a few different brands. Gonna mostly be towing a tent trailer or flat towing a built CJ7 behind it. Its my DD at 70miles/day to work too. Want something moderately soft on the street, and yet sturdy for towing. I am planning on lifting the Bronco within the next six months to a year and don't want to spend a lot of $$$ on shocks now when they will be replaced in the near future with Bilstein Resevoirs. I have good rear shocks, but have the quad shocks up front that are the originals. Any suggestions for a $25-35 shock?

I have 90K on the truck, and these are the original shocks. I get a lot of body roll. Shocks are a must considering how much I drive. Figure another 15K before I finally lift it.
Well, I suggest just to go to a junkyard and pick up a set off a truck with low mileage. they will be about $10 a piece. As for when you put the lift on go with Rancho, definetly the BEST!!!!
Not an option. Don't have the time to take a day and hope that I find something. Should I just run out and get some cheap Monroes or something? I'm sure that anything would be better than what I have. Just curious if someone is partial to a Gabriel, Monroe, or some other cheaper shocks.
Ranchos aren't all they are cracked up to be. And for thr price I'd rather get something better. Seen way to many overheat and leak fluid all over the place on the trail. I currently run 9000s on my CJ, but I will be going to either coilovers or Bilstein Resevoir shocks on it when the 9000s wear out.
yo,
I installed the KYB's Gasajust Shocks on our 96 bronco. They are firm on turns and mucho better than the OEM's (when new in 96 too) on undulating surfaces such as the beach and on many roads here in NJ (where the locals do a lousy job at a high cost). The OEM's didn't have the rebound control and caused that roller coaster ride; the KYB's over the same road give a normal flat ride.
Scotty,
I bought them at a fam. owned tire/off road shop for $35.00 ea. incl NJ's outrageous 6% sales tax.
Here is an info source for the model #: http://www.shockwarehouse.com/cgi-bi...ks/search.html

Yeah, stay away from Ranchos...I have a set of 5000's all around and they are not what they are cracked up to be. I'm going back to gas charged shocks when the 5000's wear out or possibly sooner...
I bought a full set of Rancho RS5000 back in the early 90's for my 87 F-150. I spent the cash for the "polished stainless" version. They looked great! But........... They were on the truck less than a month when I ripped them off and replaced them.
I have been using Rough Countrys on my Bronco, and that old 87 and been pleased with them. I got them through Les Schwab. They are a little stiff on the smooth pavement but really come into their own with a heavy load or rough off-road.

Yeah, I feel the same way. The 9000s are much better than the 5000s, but still just don't hold up well in a full blown crawling vehicle. The desert racer guys run from them because they bleed out half way through a race. Resevoir is the way to go offroad. But my Bronco will not see much time offroad other than towing my CJ to the trails where my F350 can't get to, or if my dogs are going with me and the family.
9000s would be great for a street only rig, but I don't want to drop $75x6 shocks for them when I plan to eventually lift it. I'm gonna look into the KYBs for now.

Outrageous 6% sales tax? Where I live it's 7.7%, and that's not as high as it is other places in the state. Mine is so "low" because we are on the border with Oregon who doesn't have any sales tax. They think keeping it "low" like this will keep people from driving over the bridge to buy stuff in Oregon. Yeah, right!
I'll take either one of your sales tax percentages over mine! Here in the Seattle area we are up to 8.5%. Try paying that for everything you buy except for non prepared food-stuffs!!!
yo Mr W and Dekuma,
wOw!...but we have outrageous property and school and local taxes. How about $3500. a yr for a rural home with well water, septic, and no: sidewalks, curbs, drainage ditches, police or fire dept. Plus a 2.5% + State Income Tax.
We're paying for all that mess up in Northern NJ. And you guys are paying for prob absolutely nuttin' too.
