Can I cut the back out of a set of 56 headlight buckets to use in a 55? My 55 come with a 56 grille and air deflectors. I bought new deflectors for a 55 and now have a 55 grille. The buckets I have are in great shape and I just looked a Mid 50's and their buckets are $95.00 each. A little steep if I can modify what I have.
Thanks
I don't see any reason why not. Do all the screw holes line up and the diameter the same. Also, do your 55 Headlight doors (the beautiy ring) with the 56 buckets? Check first.
I might be tempted, if yo do cut the backs off, to cover the hole with something water tight - like a fiberglas patch, just to keep excess moinsture out.
Have you checked on e-bay or craigs list for some 55 buckets? They'd be lots cheaper.

the buckets are the same size.. the 56 grill sets the buckets back inside the edge side so that the headlight bulb is flush with the opening edge.. the 55 has the bucket flush with the edge, so the bulb is bugeyed out beyond the bucket edge..
I used 55 buckets in my 56 grill on my 55..(with 56 recessed air deflectors)..
I had to grind off the outer edge of the bucket ring. I came upon some 56 buckets later and they are identical in depth, just have a smaller edge rim..
So, net, you should be ok, without cutting anything..
Sam
and I would put in different deflectors rather than cut the headlight bucket itself..
and, if you're going to Pigeon Forge net month, I'd trade u a set of 56 buckets for a set of 55's.. but I don't think u need them
Thanks Julie and Sam. I talked to Mid Fifties last night and got a laugh from them about this. They said they couldn't tell me one way or the other because it would cost them a sale. Then she laughed. So I toke that as it would work. They also have used buckets that are alot cheaper than new. Another option.
