I am looking for ideas for my Exp. for an air compressor to be used for inflating tires after off-road trips. On my previous 4x4 (International Scout), I had a permanently mounted air compressor (old York AC compressor) set-up that could inflate a 235-15 tire from 12 to 32 psi in approx 30 seconds. Typically, I need to reinflate the four tires from 12 to 35 psi. I want to find a compressor that is faster and more efficient than the emergency compressors that plug into the accesory jack. Most of these compressors cannot handle inflation of four tires. Given the limited amount of space under the hood, I do not expect to be able to have a permanently mounted compressor for the Exp but it sure would be nice if it could be permanently mounted.
I am hoping not to have to use a tank as I do not have the room when carrying other gear plus four people in my family. While on the idea of a tank, any idea what size the tank would have to be? Thanks for the suggestion.
I hear you on the space issue, but like you said, there's probably no way to mount a compressor under the hood...might be room in the rear quarter areas. I know a lot of guys pack tons of stereo equipment back there.
I don't know exact tank sizes, but have seen two at most stores. I'd think the larger of the two would hold enough air for your demands, provided you don't have huge tires. From memory the larger of the two tanks run around $40.
JC Witney has a couple that I'm looking at right now. I'm going to mount the compressor where the speaker would go in the rear of my Expy. Just need to make a few mods, but shouldn't take longer than a day to complete. I'm installing a remote hose connection on the driver side rear panel, next to the unlock button(if you've got one). I bought a 25ft hose to use with it... All told I'm out about 425.00. Who needs a tax return check?
Hope this gives you some ideas...
