ZF5 transmission

I have a 1994 7.3 IDI w/Turbo 4x4 manual tranny. I also have a 1994 4x2 manual tranny.
The 4x4 tranny is bad SO can i swap out trannys and use the 4x2 tranny if i replace the driveline? I have 2 trucks that are identical, i want to do this until $ is saved to get a rebuilt or remaned 4x4 tranny. That 4x2 tranny came from that above mentioned motor originally we just converted it to 4x4.

from what i can understand, your wanting to take your bad 4x4 trans, ditch it and use the good 4x2 trans?

if thats correct, it cant be done. there is a fixed yoke on the back of the trans that prevents anything from happening, unless you have a divorced tcase, which are old style.

your better off rebuilding your 4x4, then swap tailshafts you have to take ALL the gears out of the 2wd trans, press them out of the back plate and put the 4x4 stuff in. not worth it!

id have a reputable shop rebuild it, its a pain because all of the gears come out with the back case, and you need 2 special adapters to make it work while rebuilding it
