Shift Kit for 2001 Expedition
<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->I found this forum when attempting to learn about the benefits of a shift kit. I have read several posts which have been helpful in making a decision.
I have a 01 Expedition with 88K miles and is currently having a rebuilt transmission installed. I am seriously considering a shift kit being added during the installation of the transmission but am concerned about how hard the shifts are after installation.
The primary driver of the Expedition is my wife in transporting the kids around town. I have driven a car and truck only a couple of times with shift kits installed and like the feeling of having extra power, but are the shifts too hard for a family vehicle?
Any insight is appreciated. I need to make a decision as soon as possible.

Thanks for the link but it doesn't describe what the punisher is or where it can be purchased. I do not know what a valvebody is or what it does. Is there another link that may provide additional information? I am interested, but I am trying to beat the clock since my transmission is being rebuilt now.
I am no expert but from what I understand most shift kits just increase the hydraulic pressure inside the transmission to make the shifts more positive. If you want to go this route check out the kits by Transgo.
The punisher, on the other hand, makes you a custom valve body to control the shifts tailored to what you want.
However if you are just concerned with transmission longevity then probably the best bang for the buck is to fit an extra transmission fluid cooler.
If you want to contact the Punisher his email address is in one of the posts in the link.
