Fuel Filter

I was wondering how hard it is to change the fuel filter. Its a 2000 Explorer XLT V8. It has bout 35,000 miles on it and was thinking it probably might help to change it.

I change mine about every 40,000 miles, better safe than sorry. You have to have a set of Spring Lock coupling Tools to remove the line from the filter. They are a round tool with a slit through one side. It slides around the line and into the coupling on the filter and fuel line. You have to push the line towards the filter while pushing the tool in at the same time. Then the line will release.

The first time I changed mine, it took a while because I was not used to working with the tool. Now I can change them relatively easy. The tool is also used on A/C lines as well...

Good Luck with the job!!!

Yes, the trick is to push in on the line. There is just the mentality of some people, if something doesn't work use more force. The inconvienent location makes it a lot harder than it should be. I use the cheap plastic tool and find it necessary to use the side face of a pliers to push it in. New is always nice but you shouldn't have to think about replacig the filter till at least 70K.
