Crossmember question

Well I guess I kind of jacked another thread (sorry about that, I should have known better)so here's a new one...

If I'm putting in a 460 w/C6 combo in the 66, what crossmember below, if any, needs to be removed or recommended for removal??

Thanks a lot.

John did have a good point, his post was not up when i started to answer the question... but here it is again, you need to make the crossmsmber(the one between the radius arms mounts) removable not remove it all together, drill out or grind off the rivits and step up the rivit holes with a drill bit and use grade 8 bolts and nuts, washers etc... if you dont you will not be able to get the tranny out without removing the engine as well.

Hello, Santi!
Installing your 460/C6 is very easy, especially since you have a Twin I-beam frame. I'll start from the front of the frame.
Your best help is to use the factory 460 mounts on the first main cross member - they bolt right in. Spend the extra money to get them, as they will solve all the fitment problems you will face if you don't. The bolt holes are already there.
As for the second cross member, you MUST keep this one, as it stabilizes the frame at the point where the radius arms depend for stiffness. However, since you are using a C-6, you will be well advised to remove the rivets that affix it to the radius arm castings, and replace the rivets with grade 8 bolts, just like Bill just posted. Notice that the upper flange of this cross member is already bolted into the upper frame rail. If you are going to install the drivetrain before you re-install the body, you don't need to remove the second cross member. However, with the body on, you can't remove or install the engine and transmission together as a single unit if that cross member is in place. Making it easy to remove now is simple and quick, and will save you time and trouble if you have to pull them later on. By the way, if the truck was originally equipped from the factory with an automatic, the second cross member will be bolted, not riveted. The cab will also have a removable inspection plate in the cab, about where the passenger's left foot sits.
The third cross member (not in your picture) is the transmission support. You may need to relocate it back a bit for your 460/C-6 combination.
Other than that, you should be good to go for your project.
(I know this is a repeat from the other site, but I wanted to close the loop for future reference.)

Factory 460 engine mounts will be found in: 1973/79 F100/350's w/a 460.

D3TZ6028A .. Right & D3TZ6029A .. Left Engine Supports (towers, stands, perches).

D3TZ6030A .. Right & D3TZ6031A .. Left Brackets. These bolt to the block, the rubber insulators bolt to these then to the supports.

2) D3TZ6038A .. Right/Left Rubber Insulators.

All these parts are obsolete, part numbers listed FYI.

NOTE: Econoline and passenger car mounts are not the same...will not work. Neither will anything from 1980/96.
