it could be a number of things. a weak vacuum pump would make the blend doors not work properly. a low charge would require more air flow over the condenser and higher compressor speed. 85f is not hot enough to cause problems.

A few WAGS

You need to take a look at the compressor clutch when it is getting warm. If not engaging , may need to remove the washer from behind the clutch & put a thinner one in ..(air Gap) may be to large. The condenser may be clogged with dirt . May be low on refrigerant also...

I also agree on the vac pump may not be closing the blend door..Sometimes a pen or pencil will fall from the glove box and bind things up...

With the system off, it should be about 70-75psi . Running at a high idle, around 40-45 on the low(blue) side. I think around 200ish on the high.

What kind of gauge are you using? Is it the one that comes with the can or a real dual set? The low side connection is on the accumulator by the firewall. The high side is closer to the front of the truck on the smaller line.

Mine has stopped working a couple of times and the plug on top of the compressor needed cleaned. Then it still would kick on and off. With a running engine and the ac on wiggle the plug and see if the compressor will kick in. On mine I used a plastic tie and pulled it over towards the middle of the engine and it has not failed me sense.
