me and my friend are rebuilding my 460 in my 88 F-250, and was wondering if any of you had any suggestions on what we should do to it to increase power ratings over stock. thanks.

That all depends on how much money you are looking to spend and what you are planning on using the truck for. If you are just using it for towing or a daily driver it wouldn't take much to liven it up. A decent set of heads(edlebrock performer), bigger cam(.350-.400 lift), intake and carb(650-750 cfm) will do wonders for it.
I need to do that on my 83. Its a gutless wonder that gets 6mpg.
How much do the heads and cams cost Josh? I know the carb is about $400 and the intake is around $200.

I usually buy my heads from jegs or summitt. They run about $900 (each head) for a set of complete heads. Cams are usually in the $150-200 range, depending on which brand you go with.
$1800 for heads is more than I want to spend on that truck.
I could turbo the IDI or get anouther 50 RWHP and RWTQ out of the V10 for that.
How much HP/TQ will a 460 running that make, and whats the mileage like?
With an older truck that is a problem you run into a lot. You can build the engine up really nice, but the rest of the truck needs work too. Before you know it you have $10k in a $3k truck.
You can easily get over 400 hp and 500 tq out of a 460 with just a mild head, cam, intake and carb change and still get the same kind of mpg's(as long as you keep the pedal off the floor lol). I don't drive my 69 enough to fool with checking the mileage, but I just filled it up yesterday. I'll check it the next time I fill up.
For what it would cost to completely rebuild your 460, I would recommend getting a turbo or sc for your v10.

the 460 in my 55 (avatar), gets 436HP, 489TQ, with a mild cam (equal timing on both intake and exhaust), a set of 69 heads (high compression), a set of larger valves (no porting done), a dual plane manifold, and a 750 Holley carb.
with a cam that favored exhaust timing a bit more they tell me I could have got another 50hp out of it..
now, 5mpg sounds high for my application!.. C6, 3.55 rear.

I think that a turbo on the v10 would be a better use of the money.
400 Hp sounds great, but 5-6 city and 7-8 highway is not something I am will to do. That truck will just sit, when I am making more money and have other things out of the way it will be a fun project to either make it a modded 460 5 speed 4x4 beast or a lightly modded 3V V10 4x4 someday.
Most likly the 460. I love the V10s, but I would get bored if everything had one.
I know all about 10K in a truck worth 3K. You have to plan on not selling it for a long time for it to be worth it.
5 star is building a V10 turbo kit, he should be putting it on the dyno soon. I'll wait a while until every thing is worked out, but I hope to get one of thoes.
