I'm restoring my Dads 64 Ford F100 short box that I've owned since 1973. I would like to put in a 5 speed with .35% overdrive or better. I installed a rebuilt 4.3 Leiter 6, some years ago. It runs through a full sincro 3 speed to a .408 differential. It gets 16 miles per gallon at 55 mph. I read the discussion on putting a T5 in a 3/4 ton 4 X 4. Didn't sound like a good idea. So would a T5 work better with a 262 cubic inch 6 cylinder, or is there something else I could use? I just ordered King Pins, I was told by Dodd's Automotive that I needed to replace the King Pins, and Drag Link before they could realign it. So I guess I'll start with the steering, repack the bearings, bleed the brakes, etc. and work up to the rear motor mounts, then the transmission. I spend (3) days a week on dialysis, so this is going to take more than a week after I get the parts.
1ST & foremost welcome aboard; I'm also in the process of restoring my 64 F100; not as complex of a motor & trans selection as yours seems to be. I'm installing a 360 w/ a c-6, adding power steering & brakes. Sorry I can't help ya on motor questions. If no answer here try the closest engine forum that relates.
My 64 is all disassemble minus cab shell removal; waiting on engine cross member for FE motor from Carolina Classic, too ensure proper displacement prior to cab removal.
Keep us posted on your progress; looking forward to seeing your work!
