i am going to flush my cooling system,
but i wanted to find out..

what is the best coolant to fill it up with when done?
pre diluted?

For a full fill, use concentrate and distilled water, for top off use 50/50 ...

Don't forget the SCA's if you don't use a coolant that already has it.

-Enjoy

I use standard old green as is required by our engine and SCA's... 50/50 tested regularly. Some products are not meant for use in our engines. Here is a good article....

http://www.diesel-central.com/News/coolant.htm

As for the flushing search out Restore by Fleetguard it is a good product. http://www.fleetguard.com/html/en/index.html

"BajaGringo Block Drains" go in the plugged drain points on each side of the engine block so as to fully drain the coolant.

The block drains are just 1/4"npt pet*****, available in the "HELP" section at the auto parts store. You need a 9/16" crowfoot socket that fits on a socket extension to reach in to tighten them (There's no room for a reg open end wrench). Then, cut up an old spark plug socket to fit over the petcock to loosen/tighten. Once they are loose, slip the 3/8" rubber hose over the end of the petcock and continue loosening the petcock (with the other end of hose in bucket). Installing these is still messy and a bit of a hassle, but NEXT TIME it'll be a lot less messy and a lot easier. Smear 'em with anti-seize to make sure they turn 'next time'. This makes saving/reusing the expensive DCAs/antifreeze possible if you use CLEAN BUCKETS. I bought a special funnel that snaps into the radiator fill, and use a metal spray paint funnel/filter/screen just to make sure nothing too big gets back in there.

yes lee... sca's prevent cabitation. it eats away and the water jackets behind the cylinder walls from the combustion chamber pressure. not as big of an issue on the 6.9 since the cylinder walls are different. any "extended life" coolant does not need added sca's. its actually counter productive to add them. if you run a standard green coolant you will be testing your system all the time. and that means you will always be buying test strips. if you get an extended life coolant its fill and forget.
