I have a 93 ranger 2.3 that i installed a 89 model 2.3 motor. now it wont start. I have spark and i put fuel into the throttle bottle but nothing. Is the electronics the same for these model years? The only electrical part that is from the 89 is the crank trigger. The 93 motor was running when pulled but it had a cracked head. The 89 motor i was told was in great condition the owner heard it run before pulling it out. I have fuel at the schrader valve. Any thoughts thanks
Welcome to FTE. This is a great site to get help for your Ranger.
You ask if the electronics are the same. I'm not sure if they are or not, however my guess is that they are not. When you installed the 89 engine, did all the electrical connectors have a place to connect to? Did you have any wires "left over," that is, there was no place for them to hook to? If your answer to either of these questions is "No," that is a clue that the electronics are probably different. Did you tag, or make note, of all the connections on the '93 including colors on the wires, all vacuum lines and fuel lines? If not, you may have one or more wires or lines connected to the wrong thing.
If these ideas don't help you find the answer to your question, I'm sure someone else will be along shortly to help you out.
Yea all of the wiring and vacumn lines were exactly the same except they are two sensors located on the intake manifold of the 89 that are not on the 93 so I would think that they are not needed for the 93 electronics. thanks
Take the 89 motor down to the Long Block, rebuild using the parts from the 93, use all the sensors from the 93, use all the 93 electronics, use only the long block from the 89.
